Hailing from London, Ontario, the four girls from Kittie (who range in age from 15-17, including sisters Morgan and Mercedes) are shattering the mold that most so called "chick-bands" are cut from, Kittie donıt just purr... they roar. Heavy and brooding, theyıll knock you over and kick you square in the teeth.
The band formed in 1997 when Mercedes Lander and Fallon Bowman met at gymnastics class. Soon the band was completed with the addition of bassist/vocalist Tanya Candler and Merceedesı sister Morgan on lead vocals and guitar.
Kittieıs emotionally charged music has been described as " a god damn smack in the face with a crowbar," or as Alternative Press (online) claims "...they have more balls than Limp Bizkit." With their no-holds barred attitude, Kittie may certainly draw comparisons to other famous women in rock who shattered the mold of women in the music business. "Man, Courtney Love is the woman that opened my eyes to rock music. Raunchy, mouthy, sexy rock n roll" says guitarist Fallon. Tanya also shares admiration for the Hole front woman. "I think women like Courtney Love and Madonna have set great examples for women in the music business. Especially Courtney....when it comes to rock music, sheıs broken a lot of taboos and barriers and paved the way for a lot of the female artists to come." Morgan believes that in terms of female rock bands, "bands like L7, Hole and the Lunachicks have really opened doors for us....allowed us to be ourselves and do our own thing." Kittie has a strong desire to prove themselves in a male dominated genre. Fallon remembers being told by "this guy that girls donıt belong in the music business. I really want to prove him wrong."
